Sacramento, California (AP) —Judges have partially blocked an order coming into force this week requiring prison officials in California to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
Judges in Kern County have issued temporary restraint orders that prevent the enforcement of vaccination obligations for security guards represented by politically powerful unions.
This obligation, which will come into effect on Friday, will continue to apply to other workers in prisons with medical facilities.
This mission aims to prevent the outbreak of another coronavirus that killed 28 prisoners and corrective officers in San Quentin State Prison last year.
The California Correctional Peace Officers Association opposes this measure.
