Christmas alert as Nintendo Switch OLED supplies set to dry up 'early next year'

NINTENDO has just launched its upgraded Switch model, but it is already set to suffer from supply issues.

The Nintendo Switch OLED was released this month, just as the original Switch received a price cut in Europe.

While the upgrades are great, if you already own the OG model, it doesn’t offer a plethora of new features to warrant separation.

Nintendo apparently anticipated that the uptick might not be immediate.

This is reflected in the split in production between the new OLED, original and Switch Lite models.

This comes via a new report from Bloomberg that sees the outlet talking to a source as one of Nintendo’s assembly partners.

But it’s not just the decision to be careful with production that is causing the problem.

Component Shortage – PS5, Xbox Series X Since Launch | is plaguing S – also taking its toll.

Since the launch of the Nintendo Switch OLED, retailers in Japan have been selling them — including Nintendo’s own flagship store in Tokyo.

As we’ve seen with the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in the US and UK, lottery systems are being implemented to provide customers with the opportunity to buy one.

A Japanese retailer told Bloomberg that Nintendo Switch OLED stock issues are expected to continue through early 2022.

This puts Nintendo in the same boat as Microsoft and Sony in terms of its new console supply.

However, there is a plentiful supply of basic switches and switch lights.

Sales of the two consoles are going down this year. Ace Research Institute analyst Hideki Yasuda told Bloomberg that the price cut could help clean up inventory.

But there are no official plans to cut prices further, only because of the recent volatility in currency exchange rates.

The long and short of it is that the new Nintendo Switch OLED model is proving more popular than anticipated and components are harder to come by.

If you were on the fence about picking one up, the reality is that you may have no other choice but to wait when you stop.

So make up your mind before the Black Friday and Christmas shopping rush begins.
